You may be more than ready to hold your baby in your arms soon, but is your mental and physical states ready for the delivery? For all you know, they might not be! Neither is this to say that you should be at the top, most optimum health condition by the time you are about to give birth nor should you even look a certain way. In fact, you don’t even have to be at your peak!
This is to say that it is important for you to at least feel well enough to go through the labour and delivery. Keep in mind that some moms go through almost day-long contractions before they finally give birth. Plus, it would also be much more calming and makes you feel more in-charge when you know and are at least ready for what’s coming.
Easier said than done, but it is really important to make sure that you DO get to relax when you’re pregnant. Stress can affect you in more ways than you know, and sometimes can even cause complications during delivery.
If you feel like you are starting to get negative thoughts or that you feel anxious as your EDD is nearing, take a step back and give yourself a break – a break from the hectic life, the overwhelming thoughts of your post-birth life, or simply from the difficulty of walking (i.e. waddling) with your growing baby bump.
For a start, you can simply meditate, do yoga, or go for a brisk walk. Try not to take up any high-impact exercises. On the other hand, you can also opt for other therapy or treatment that you can get without having to exert too much energy – which brings us to our next point:

Prenatal massage works great to relieve your discomforts throughout your pregnancy, but especially once you get into your second trimester. That is the period where many things feel like they are hard to deal with. You will experience body aches, cramps, night sweats, and many more when you are pregnant. When necessary, considering a prenatal massage to resolve all of these is certainly a good idea.
So, how will massage help to ensure smooth labour? Because at the core of it, a relaxed pregnancy is a huge factor for a smooth delivery! It is important that you tackle any discomforts that you feel during pregnancy immediately and not let them worsen. This way, by the time you are nearing your EDD, you will have little to no unpleasant things to bear with.
However, this is not to be confused with labour massage. A labour massage is meant to help induce labour, and a prenatal massage is not. As a matter of fact, prenatal massage excludes body parts that are more sensitive that can possibly cause you to get into labour. That said, if you are already way past your EDD and are specifically looking for ways to get yourself into labour, then labour massage makes a good alternative.
Be informed about what you’re going through. Learn everything you can about labour and delivery. Things are much more tolerable when you know what’s coming and why certain things happen. This way, when something does indeed happen during labour (e.g. different levels of contractions), you know what you can do and you know what it indicates.
